| The Problem |
| Ever since bumper pull hitch systems were invented, hitch alignment has been a problem for one simple reason: How do you align what you can't see? Over the years, many products have been invented and patented which attempt to address this annoying, time consuming, and sometimes expensive problem.
|
An Attempted Solution |
| There are the steel V products which achieve alignment by means of brute force. This may be okay if you're lining up a small trailer with a low tongue weight, but with large trailers like my 30 foot Jayco, tongue weights will be somewhere between 600 and 1000 lbs. Trying to force alignment with that much weight bearing down on the jack will only result in damage to the jack shaft, tow vehicle and trailer coupler. |
A Better Solution |
| There are the indirect view methods, usually comprised of magnetically mounted orange sticks. One is positioned over your hitch ball, the other over your trailer coupler. I think this is better than using brute force, but it also seems to be a kind of half-solution, with some inherent flaws of its own. With long sticks, the likelihood of misalignment is greater, because now you're lining up the sticks, not your hitch and trailer. Even a small angular error in positioning the sticks will result in the stick ends being misaligned with the hitch and trailer. For example, if you're lining up with the end of 36" sticks, it will take an angle error of only 2.4 degrees to put the end of the sticks off by 1.5 inches! For both 2" and 2 5/16" hitch balls, this is more than half the diameter of the ball. And that's a failed alignment, because now the trailer will not slide over the ball as it's being lowered. 2.4 degrees is a very small error. |
The Best Solution |
|
I'll restate the problem: How do you align what you can't see? Answer: SEE. Could it be more obvious? There are several fine mirror-based devices on the market. But I believe that my product, Hitch Up Mirror™, is the best hitch alignment product available. Why? I have the benefit of following the inventors who've worked on this problem before I did. And as an engineer, I know how to design devices, and how to improve on existing devices. So, I purposely designed it to be the best!
- Hitch Up Mirror's convex mirror is twelve inches across, and has a
field of view of twelve feet, giving it the best and largest field of view of any product on the market. It's also an acrylic
mirror, which makes it almost unbreakable. Acrylic is also only 25% as heavy as a glass mirror of the same size, and gives a 20% brighter image!
- Hitch Up Mirror mounts on your trailer, rather than on your tow vehicle. That means your tow vehicle will never be scratched. And I designed the mount to be completely safe for your trailer as well.
- Hitch Up Mirror has a very wide range of adjustablility, so you'll be able to see the mirror, no matter if you're towing with a VW beetle or a Ford F350.
- Hitch Up Mirror's use heavy duty flex arms, welded and powder coated steel, and all around top grade materials. Hitch Up Mirror is made to last!
- Every Hitch Up Mirror comes with a custom made zippered tote bag, for convenient storage and protection.
